Boo! Watch out Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram because there is a new MVP player in town sneaking up on you: Snapchat. The “dominant” ghost app was released in July 2011 and has gained extreme popularity since then, especially amongst millennials and iGens (GenZ). It is an image messaging and multimedia mobile application that gives users two options. The first choice (or what we like to call the ghost option) allows users to send up to 10 seconds of content to other users, then… it’s gone forever. The second option allows users to post their content on “My Story” and provides 24-hour playback.
Marketing that disappears after only just a couple of seconds? What’s the point?
Recently, on their weekly The Digital Dish podcast recorded on Blab co-hosts, Cathy Hackl, and Lisa Buyer interviewed Collin Austin, Entrepreneur, Motivational Speaker and COE-Chief of Everything of New Scooters 4 Less on how he utilizes Snapchat to stay connected with his customers. Austin shares why he is “obsessed with Snapchat” and why “ if you make time, it will pay dividends,” during the 40-minute interview. He also shares the following advice on how he uses Snapchat as a more personalized way of marketing his company:
#BTS. Snapchat is the perfect social media platform that allows for a sneak peek at what goes on in a business, event, or meeting live. It will make your followers feel very VIP.
Service in a Snap. Instant customer service is an excellent way to make sure your clients know how much you care about them. “This is your direct contact to me,” Austin says after he shares a quick story regarding a customer whose scooter broke down at 10 o’clock at night.
Visual Media Fun✍ Snapchat is a great way to interact with your clients in real-time, so why not have fun. Take advantage of the doodling tools, don’t forget to play around with the filters, and have a Geofilter available!
Filter? Geofilter? I’m confused…
Don’t be. It’s kind of a cool feature that allows users to spice things up by overlaying their photo or video with a filter. If you want to interact and impress your customers, Geofilters, which are filters that can only be accessed by location, are a must. Buyer says,”If your business isn’t going to be on Snapchat or actively on Snapchat, the least you can do is have a Geofilter for your geo-location.” It is an easy way to merchandise your brand, “it’s user-generated content.”
Getting Snapchat Followers
- Sales in a Snap. Offer exclusive promo codes for your Snapchat followers. Again making your fans feel special. Austin gave a 50% OFF discount for his Snapchat followers and was able to get 5-6 orders in 24 hours just from that one snap!
- Snapchat Daily. If you decided to make your company active on Snapchat, you wouldn’t be able to get away with just one post every month, or every week, it’s a daily commitment.
- Freshen up! Make sure the content is fresh! Nobody want’s to see the same old stuff!
- Keep it interesting. Snapchat is a fun way to interact with clients, let’s not bore them to death.
Social PR Secret: Why not spread the Snapchat love with your customers? Add your Snapchat snapcode to invoices, business cards and more! Why not spread the Snapchat love on your marketing materials?
